Genetically modified chickens to produce life saving protein in eggs.

UK scientists have produced genetically designer eggs with protein to fight cancers. This breakthrough has been achieved by the same research center who created cloned sheep 'Dolly'. These eggs are layed by genetically modified chickens, running in to fifth generations now.

Some of the birds have been engineered to lay eggs that contain miR24, a type of antibody with potential for treating malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Others produce human interferon b-1a, which can be used to stop viruses replicating in cells.

The proteins are secreted into the whites of the eggs. It is a fairly straightforward process then to extract and purify them.

Yobike : Electric Scooters

To avoid lazy Saturday afternoon winks, normally i take a small motorcycle ride in unusual routes, to explore new things happening and coming around the city. While going around came across a Y0bike showroom, a showroom of Electric scooters. Out of curiosity, i went to inquire and test ride these mini scooters running on electricity.

The marketing guy seemed to be well prepared compared to many other guys i have visited previously, he explained me the technology and how it works. When asked for the test ride he arranged it readily.

Its a easy to ride scooter, no gears only throttle control and brakes, with a range of 70 KM on a single charge. Full recharge of battery takes 4 to 5 hours, you can charge it on board if you have power point in your parking area or batteries can be lifted and taken to home for recharging. Maximum speed goes upto 35 with pillion rider, that is what I tried to. The sales guy says it takes only one unit to charge the batteries.

To some up the experience, its a good economical ride for campuses and small towns where one can use it for dropping your kids to schools and move around for shopping of groceries and essentials. Hope they have added some additional charging via solar cells to maximize the range. One doesn't need to register it or need a license to ride it.

Mukesh Ambani interview a insight on how Reliance was built

Interesting read of this week is interview of Mukesh Ambani on rediff.com, Mukesh reveals soberly his childhood impressions, his father, early days of reliance, development of competence at reliance, growth in 80-90 and 90-2000 onwards. Obviously hiding much and revealing less.

"We tried to create an open environment. In today's language, we created SOPs and SOCs (standard operating procedures, standard operating conditions) so that everybody was on the same page. "

Read it at part 1 , part 2 and part 3 on rediff.com.

Nithari Killings and aftermath

Nithari killings are shame on indian society. Narco test revelations by accused Surinder Koli that he tried to ate human flesh is disgusting, so does the total apathy shown by the local police to the parents of missing children.

Sexual perversion, trantrik advice, police apathy and the protection and may be abetment by his master Moninder Singh Pandher are the social ills to ponder upon. Moninder Singh's 100 crore business and elite background acted as a shield to this crime against humanity. So far their is no response by the socialites who has been boozed by Moninder Singh, that may include many government official and politicians.

Now as the case has been transferred to CBI the central investigating agency and in their primary research and investigations they have found more bags with human body parts the total scene is getting murkier. Casting doubts about the role of UP police in investigation and suspected to be handiwork of large network more than seen to eyes.

Political class is playing the game of politics on the finding. Congress party and Samajwadi party with help of maverick Amar Singh are busy cashing on the killings as the elections are due in Uttar Pradesh.

Now since things have gone past hand, future course should be devised for betterment of the societal skills to tackle such problems. Surinder Koli's DNA mapping and Psychoanalysis should be done before he is given capital punishment. So does, the administrative apathy should be dealt sternly.
